Agreement and who can use Expanary
By using Expanary, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Expanary.
These Terms are an agreement between you and Expanary ("Expanary," "we," "us") for the Expanary website, apps and related services (the "Service").
Age requirements.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use Expanary.
- If you are under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), you need permission from a parent or legal guardian. Your parent or guardian must read and agree to these Terms for you, and is responsible for your use of Expanary, including any purchases.
- In countries where a higher age applies for using online services without parental consent, you need a parent's consent until you reach that age.
- If a school gives you access to Expanary, the school's agreement with us may also apply.
Your account
You're responsible for your account and everything that happens in it.
- Give accurate information when you sign up, including your age, and keep it up to date.
- Keep your sign-in private. Don't share your account or let others use it.
- Each account is for one person. Don't create accounts for others without their permission, or create accounts automatically.
- Tell us right away at support@expanary.com if you think someone else is using your account.
Using Expanary responsibly
Expanary is for learning. Use it legally, safely and honestly.
You may not use Expanary to:
- Break any law, or help someone else break one.
- Harass, bully, threaten or hurt anyone, or create hateful, sexual or violent content.
- Upload photos of other people to identify them, track them, or share private details about them.
- Share someone else's personal information without their permission.
- Create content that exploits or harms children in any way.
- Try to get around Expanary's safety rules, limits or age protections.
- Hack, overload, scrape or reverse-engineer the Service, or access it with bots without our permission.
- Resell or copy Expanary, or use its output to build a competing AI product.
- Pretend to be someone else, or claim AI-written work is entirely your own where that's not allowed.
You must also follow the usage policies of our AI provider, Anthropic, which apply to all content sent through Expanary.
Academic honesty. You're responsible for following your school's and teachers' rules on AI. Expanary is designed to help you understand material, not to complete graded work for you. Using it to cheat on tests or assignments breaks these Terms when your school forbids it.
Your content and AI output
You own what you put into Expanary and, as far as the law allows, what Expanary writes for you.
- Your input. Your questions, photos and files stay yours. You give us permission to store, process and send them to our providers only to run the Service for you, as described in the Privacy Policy. You confirm you have the right to upload what you share.
- AI output. We give you any rights we have in the answers Expanary generates for you. Similar questions can get similar answers, so other people may receive output like yours.
- Our stuff. The Expanary name, logo, design and software belong to us. These Terms don't give you rights to them beyond using the Service.
- Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.
AI limitations
Expanary's answers come from AI and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check anything important before relying on it.
- Expanary is a study tool. It is not a substitute for your teachers, or for professional medical, mental-health, legal or financial advice.
- Your learning profile and check-in results are estimates of how you learn. They are not official grades or assessments.
- If you are ever in crisis or in danger, contact a trusted adult, call or text 988 in the US, or call your local emergency number.
Plans and payments
Expanary has a free plan and paid plans that renew automatically until you cancel.
| Plan | Monthly price | Yearly price | Daily questions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 50 |
| Student | $8 a month | $80 a year ($6.67 a month) | 300 |
| Plus | $15 a month | $150 a year ($12.50 a month) | 1,000 |
| Pro | $30 a month | $300 a year ($25 a month) | Practically unlimited, subject to fair use |
Yearly plans cost 10 times the monthly price, which is 2 months free. Prices don't include taxes where they apply.
- Who can pay. Purchases by users under 18 must be made or approved by a parent or guardian.
- Billing. Payments are processed by Stripe. Your plan renews at the start of each billing period, and you authorize us to charge your payment method until you cancel.
- Cancel anytime in Settings, Billing. You keep paid features until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Refunds. Payments are non-refundable except where the law requires, or if you ask within 7 days of your first payment on a plan.
- Price changes. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice before a price change applies to you, so you can cancel first.
- Fair use. Limits help keep Expanary affordable. We may slow or pause use that looks automated or abusive.
Ending your account, disclaimers and liability
You can stop using Expanary and delete your account anytime in Settings, Account.
If we suspend or end accounts. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, puts others at risk, or that we must close by law. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to export your data first.
Disclaimer. Expanary is provided "as is" and "as available." To the extent the law allows, we don't promise the Service will always be available, error-free, or that answers will be accurate.
Limit of liability. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or lost data or profits. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Indemnity. If you're an adult and you misuse Expanary or break these Terms, you agree to cover reasonable costs we face from claims that result.
Disputes, changes and contact
If you have a problem with Expanary, email us first at support@expanary.com. Most issues can be solved in 30 days.
- Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes that aren't resolved informally go to the state or federal courts located in California, or to small claims court where it qualifies. If you live in a country whose laws give you the right to bring claims at home, that right still applies.
- Changes. We may update these Terms as Expanary grows. For meaningful changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email at least 14 days before they apply. Continuing to use Expanary after that means you accept the new Terms.
- The whole agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the full agreement between you and us about Expanary. If a part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later.
